ORGANIZATION HISTORY
The Green Cares Food Pantry, established in August 2009, continues to provide food to low-income families in Green County. Located at 422 S. Garfield Street in Monticello, Wisconsin, Green Cares is the largest food pantry in Green County. The pantry is operational on Tuesday afternoons of from 2:30 to 6 PM, Thursday mornings 9AM - 12:00 pm, and Saturdays from 8 AM - 10:30 AM, and will be open for emergencies. Green Cares is open more frequently and during varied times of the day to increase pantry accessibility for low-income households. Households are asked to schedule appointments during regular business hours in order to receive pantry services, however, walk-ins are welcome and won't be turned away. Referrals from Green County Human Services, St. Vincent DePaul, Green County Health Department, and area churches continue to be made to Green Cares; both for emergency and ongoing services. Green Cares Food Pantry is supported exclusively by volunteers - there are no paid staffers and we are a tax deductible 501(c)(3). GREEN CARES FOOD PANTRY MISSION Green Cares Food Pantry, a volunteer-run pantry serving all low-income Green County Wisconsin households, provides approximately a week's worth of healthy and nutritious food while linking household members to employment opportunities, community resources, non-profit programming, and governmental benefits to improve the economic condition of the household. Green Cares has a basic belief - no one should be hungry. GREEN CARES FOOD PANTRY GOALS The goals of Green Cares Food Pantry are to assist in providing the basic needs for our clients by ensuring all people have access to nutritious food, especially for our youth and elderly; to promote quality of life for all; to serve as an advocate for low-income citizens and to promote community engagement.
